The Neon Lit Reading Series began in 2009 and is run by the MFA and PhD students of UNLV’s Creative Writing Program. Each reading features writing and performances by current UNLV students, alumni, and local writers and artists. We have no rules around here, which is why each reading is unique. The readers at these events are creating pieces across all genres, and we encourage them to perform them as they please every month.
In our new effort to grow the reading series, we will include one special guest from outside the UNLV MFA/PhD students; this list includes Ahmed Naji, Faylita Hicks, Nabila Lovelace, Oksana Marafioti, Andy Nicholson, Akil Kumarasamy, local poets Darian Fluker and Kae Oden and many more to come.
UNLV’s Creative Writing MFA & PhD students read their work every 4th Friday at The Writer’s Block bookstore in downtown Las Vegas, as well as other locations. Past readings have also taken place at the Neon Museum and the Velveteen Rabbit. Join us for fresh poetry, non-fiction, fiction, food, drinks, and special guests.
Neon Lit is made possible by overwhelming support from The Writer’s Block, the UNLV English Department, Black Mountain Institute, and the Las Vegas literary community. Thank you!
